- Today: Testing to BS 7671. Our goal: Sequence the dead and live tests.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Safe isolation first — every time: identify, isolate, secure, prove the tester on a known source, test dead, prove the tester again. Then dead tests in order: continuity of protective conductors, continuity of ring final conductors, insulation resistance, polarity. Only then live tests: earth fault loop impedance (Zs), prospective fault current and RCD operating times. Results go on the certificate with the design values beside them, because a reading only means something compared with what the circuit should read.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Write the safe-isolation sequence from memory and have it checked.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
