- Today: Memory models. Our goal: Compare the multi-store and working memory models.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Atkinson and Shiffrin's multi-store model runs sensory → short-term → long-term, with rehearsal moving material along. Baddeley and Hitch showed short-term memory is not one store but several: a phonological loop, a visuo-spatial sketchpad, an episodic buffer and a central executive. Evidence comes from dual-task studies and from patients with selective deficits.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Design a dual-task experiment separating the loop from the sketchpad.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
