- Today: Quantum behaviour. Our goal: Explain wave–particle duality and the photoelectric effect.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Light behaves as a wave in interference and as particles — photons of energy E = hf — when it knocks electrons out of metal. Below a threshold frequency nothing happens however bright the light, which classical waves cannot explain. Electrons likewise diffract, with de Broglie wavelength λ = h/p. Reality is not either/or; the model you need depends on the question you ask.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Calculate the maximum kinetic energy of an electron freed by 5×10¹⁴ Hz light from a metal of work function 2 eV.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
