- Today: Reading an image. Our goal: Analyse framing, light and meaning.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Every frame is a set of choices. A low angle grants power; a high angle takes it. Shallow depth of field isolates and says 'look here'. Warm light reads as safe and nostalgic, cool as clinical or lonely. The rule of thirds gives comfortable balance, dead-centre gives confrontation. Editing then creates meaning that neither shot holds alone — that is the Kuleshov effect. Ask always who framed it, what is outside the frame, and who benefits from you believing it.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Analyse one news photograph for angle, light, framing and omission.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
