Full teaching script
  1. Today: The periodic table. Our goal: Link group number to electron structure and reactivity.
  2. Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
  3. Elements are ordered by proton number. Group number tells you outer-shell electrons: group 1 has one, group 7 has seven. Group 1 metals get more reactive down the group (the outer electron is further from the nucleus and easier to lose); group 7 non-metals get less reactive down the group. Group 0 noble gases are full and inert.
  4. Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
  5. Your turn: Predict the reaction of potassium with water and justify it.
  6. Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
