- Today: Regulating a nervous system. Our goal: Use grounding and reframing tools.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Under threat the sympathetic branch floods you with adrenaline: fast heart, shallow chest breathing, narrowed thinking. You can talk to that system through the body. Slow the out-breath longer than the in-breath and the vagus nerve triggers the parasympathetic brake. Name five things you can see, four you can hear, three you can touch — attention returns to the present. Then reframe: separate the fact from the story you have added to it. Sleep, daylight, movement and one honest conversation outperform almost every quick fix.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Practise 4-in / 6-out breathing for two minutes and note what changes.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
