Full teaching script
  1. Today: Analysing a writer's method. Our goal: Comment on effect, not just feature-spotting.
  2. Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
  3. Naming a metaphor scores nothing on its own. Say what it makes the reader feel or understand: 'the city was a furnace' presses heat, danger and being trapped together, so the reader shares the character's panic. Point, evidence, explanation — every time.
  4. Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
  5. Your turn: Take one sentence from any book and write a PEE paragraph on it.
  6. Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
