- Today: Design a fair investigation. Our goal: Identify independent, dependent and control variables and limitations.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- A fair investigation changes one planned factor while trying to hold others constant. If we compare paper helicopters with different blade lengths, blade length is the independent variable. Fall time is the dependent variable we measure. Paper type, drop height and release method are control variables. Repeat each measurement because timing and air currents vary. Record all results, not only those matching your prediction. Calculate a mean and note the range to describe variation. A result can suggest a relationship without proving it in every setting. Do not use dangerous heights, climb furniture or drop objects near people. Use a low, agreed drop point and adult supervision. If measurements overlap widely, state the uncertainty rather than claiming a definite winner.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Draw a safe plan for two blade lengths. Write a prediction with a reason. Make and test at least three drops per version from the same low height. Record results in a table and discuss uncertainty.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
