- Today: Academic writing and argument. Our goal: Structure an evidence-led essay.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- An academic essay is a claim defended. Thesis in the introduction, one idea per paragraph opening with a topic sentence, evidence then interpretation then significance, counter-argument answered honestly, conclusion that earns its 'therefore'. Description scores low; analysis and evaluation score high.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Convert one descriptive paragraph into an analytical one.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
