Full teaching script
  1. Today: Software engineering and systems design. Our goal: Design a maintainable system.
  2. Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
  3. Separate concerns, depend on interfaces not implementations, and make state explicit. Choose monolith before microservices unless the team boundaries demand otherwise. Design for observability — logs, metrics, traces — and treat tests as the executable specification.
  4. Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
  5. Your turn: Draw the component diagram for an app you use daily.
  6. Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
