- Today: Thermodynamics and equilibrium. Our goal: Predict spontaneity and position of equilibrium.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- ΔG = ΔH − TΔS. Negative ΔG means spontaneous. ΔG° = −RT ln K links free energy to the equilibrium constant, so small energy differences move K enormously. Le Chatelier is a shortcut, not a mechanism — kinetics decides whether equilibrium is ever reached.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Calculate K at 298 K for ΔG° = −20 kJ/mol.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
