- Today: Understanding trauma and the nervous system. Our goal: Explain fight, flight, freeze and fawn.
- Take one idea at a time. Pause after each sentence; ask for repetition whenever you need it.
- Threat is assessed below conscious thought. The sympathetic branch mobilises — fight or flight; responses can include freezing, dissociation or appeasing. Explanations such as polyvagal theory remain debated. Gentle grounding or support may help some people, but no technique works for everyone; seek qualified help for persistent distress.
- Together: choose one example from the explanation and show how it works. What do you notice?
- Your turn: Track your own arousal three times today and name the state.
- Reflect: what made sense, and what would you like explained differently?
